There was a parent protest the year I was in grade twelve. No Catcher in the Rye in the classroom. Needless to say it was the most read book that year. The school library had a copy, kids had copies from brothers and sisters. The borrowing and lending was epic.

Thanks for the post! I went to a high school where our required reading senior year (the class was called “College-Bound English”) was Louis L’Amour and Agatha Christie. So I will never forget the summer I cracked open “The Catcher in the Rye” and then proceeded to read every Salinger book I could get my hands on. I felt like a whole new world had opened up.
